Life in Central Islip

Central Islip is located within Suffolk County in the state of New York. This community, which was home to almost 35,000 residents as of the most recent census, is located within the Town of Islip. It is considered a census-designated place (CDP) and is also considered a hamlet, which is the name used in New York to refer to an unincorporated community that is located within a town and not designated as a separate village.

Central Islip spans a total of 7.1 square miles, and it is entirely comprised of land with no bodies of water in the census-designated place.  Central Islip is the home of the New York Institute of Technology (NIT) and it also the site of the Touro Law Center, which is located next door to the New York Supreme Court building within Central Islip.

There are also numerous public and private schools, more than a dozen churches, and a small train station called Central Islip Station which are located in this community.   The Long Island Ducks, a club sport team that is part of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, also calls Central Islip its home and plays at Bethpage Ballpark.

Seniors in Central Islip

Central Islip is home to many seniors. In fact, approximately 8.5 percent of households in Central Islip were comprised of a person aged 65 or older who was living alone, as of the most recent census data.  In many cases, seniors- and especially older people who are living on their own without any family members – will need to make sure that they have support systems and community connections in place.

The Town of Islip provides information on senior centers and on senior nutrition programs that local elderly people within Central Islip can take advantage of.  Senior citizens centers serve people who are 60-years-of-age and older. There is a center located directly in Central Islip, at 555 Clayton Street, Central Islip, NY 11730. The telephone number for this senior center is 631-595-3508. There are also centers in West Islip, East Islip, Brentwood, Oakdale, and Ronkonkoma.

The senior centers provide nutritional services, recreational opportunities, social connections and assistance with other services that seniors need.

Eghrari Wealth Training Law Firm can provide help to seniors in taking advantage of the programs offered to them because of their age or health status. We not only help you to explore programs within your community, but can also assist in applying for programs that could offer needed benefits. Examples include, for instance, Medicaid or Veterans’ Administration programs that could cover long term care or nursing home costs.

Courts in Central Islip

Central Islip is located in Suffolk County, which means that legal matters that arise are going to be handled in the Suffolk County court system. This is the 10th Judicial District.

The legal matters likely to arise as you or a loved one gets older include both guardianship and probate.  Probate takes place after a death and facilitates the transfer of assets, while guardianship involves a person going to court to ask the court to name a guardian for an incapacitated individual.

Both guardianship and probate proceedings could be avoided with help from Eghrari Wealth Training Law Firm in making advanced plans. Avoiding these court programs can be beneficial because it can be stressful for loved ones to have to go to court and cope with legal proceedings when a loved one is incapacitated or has passed away.

If going to court is necessary, those involved in legal proceedings, including the executor of an estate, heirs or beneficiaries, those seeking guardianship and other interested parties should consult with an experienced attorney.  Eghrari Wealth Training Law Firm can provide help going to court in Suffolk County.

As the NY Courts website explains, the Surrogate Court for Suffolk County can be found at 320 Center Drive, Riverhead, NY 11901.  The Surrogate Court is the court in New York that handles wills and estates. The telephone number that you can call in order to reach this court is 631-852-1713.
