An inheritance dispute can wreak havoc with a family, especially if there is a lot of money involved. This is something to think about when you’re planning your estate.
If you are like most people you would like to think that your family members would be able to pull together and support one another after you are gone. It would certainly be disconcerting to think that the opposite dynamic would coalesce after your passing.
The best way to avoid acrimony among family members is to discuss everything in great detail with your estate planning attorney when you are originally devising a plan. Let your lawyer know about all relevant factors.
These days around half of marriages end in divorce, and the majority of second and third marriages don’t last. Sometimes these blended families get along wonderfully. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. Competing interests often exist without being dampened by any particular affection.
If you want to devise a plan that will keep the peace fill your attorney in on everything that he or she needs to know.
With the above having been stated inheritance disputes can and do present themselves. Apparently some of them are going to play themselves out publicly on a new reality show called Will Wars.
The show is still in the planning stages, but according to an article that is appearing on The Trust Advisor website it will feature disputes among wealthy family members over inheritances. The goal is to find some mutually agreeable solutions on the show.
Many people dream of TV careers, but if you are planning your estate as a high net worth individual you would probably prefer that your family members make their television debuts elsewhere.
